Nothing exists in radical opposition to content. Every other website on the internet wants to show you something: an article, a product, a video, an opinion. We looked at all of that and decided the correct amount of content for a webpage is none. This is that webpage.
Behind the scenes, an invisible counter tracks every click you make on a page that has nothing to click on, which is either the pinnacle of engineering restraint or a complete misunderstanding of what a website is for. We have not resolved this internally.
Somewhere around the tenth click, the browser tab quietly stops calling this page "Nothing" and starts calling it "Still Nothing," a distinction we consider load-bearing.
Someone, somewhere, wanted a page that displayed nothing and made no attempt to explain itself. We built exactly that, then immediately undermined it by writing this entire page explaining it.
We considered adding an image. We considered adding a single word. Every one of those ideas was rejected on the grounds that a blank page which explains itself is no longer a blank page.
Nothing has not been submitted for any award, on the theory that a panel of judges evaluating an empty page would eventually ask what else it does, and we would have to tell them: nothing, but we are counting.
Is the page broken?
No. This is the correct amount of page.
What happens if I keep clicking after ten?
The counter keeps counting. Nothing else changes. We find this reassuring.
Is there a sound?
There is a small, polite click. It is the only thing on this page that admits to doing anything.
